Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

The latest and most diverse of Oasis albums with everyone doing something, a good album but if Oasis want to make more classic album, Noel writes and Liam sings, leave the experimenting to the b-sides!!!

Bag it up : Very gritty song, the minute it starts you know your listening to an Oasis record. Liam and the guitars sound superb in this, a great album opener. 8/10

The Turning : I get a reminder of Be Here Now and magic pie from this song, not sure why though. Very good song going from loud and in your face to a stripped back sound, very good sound, you can here old Oasis and new throughout this tune. 8/10

Waiting for the Rapture : Noels first vocal contribution, he sounds superb in it, but it has a feel to it that it would really suit Liam's voice. Like bag it up it's a very gritty sound, it is, the to be expected, really quick song of the album, after a few listens you really enjoy it. 8/10

The Shock of the Lightning : Super song, super choice as the lead single, in your face Oasis song. Liam again on top form. Real easy to listen to song, a good link between the real early stuff and the newer gritter offerings. 9/10

I'm Outta Time : No matter what album Oasis have always produced one of these anthemic type acoustic tunes. For us Oasis fans from the start we will probably prefer others on the record but on the other hand its a song that will get your part time fans raving over. 8/10

Get of your High Horse Lady : Noels second offering, the weakest song on the album in my view. It's a very different new Oasis sound, very slow song, that dies away towards the end. 6/10

Falling Down : Noel finds his form and his song, he sounds like a real front-man. This is a truly marvellous song, great drum sound running through this offering. Any doubts still lingering by non believers about Oasis' "return to form" are truly quashed by this superb song, pushes Im Outta Time all the way for best song and could be put in any era of Oasis music. 10/10

To Be Where There's Life : The definite link between the previous album and this album. Quite phscodelic with a who feels love feeling to it, good steady album song. 7/10

Ain't Got Nothing : In your face song, with a definitely maybe feel to it, when you put this song on it sounds louder than the rest of the album. Again a good steady album, song. 7/10

The Nature of Reality :Very varied song that starts quick and dies off pretty quick and along with Get of Your High Horse it disappoints and brings the album down a bit. 6/10

Solider On : Good song, a solid song but in the wrong place as it just allows the album to drift away. It would be a much better song placed elsewhere, bad desicion to have it at the end.

The album starts on fire with the opening 5 songs really making you listen to the album, you definitely get a good vibe. The second half of the album is average with song 6 and the final song really bringing the album down. Falling down is superb and it's a welcome relief to hear it after Get of your High Horse. All in all a good album, in my view 2 songs short of being an exceptional album. Overall 8/10

This was a review I did on the old Oasis forums which are now defunct.
