This is the album that defined my life, it was the first time that I walked into a shop and bought my own CD, it was at the height of Oasis mania and it was not a dissapointment.
Be Here Now had a lot to live up to, its two predecessors Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory were by all accounts Great albums and both regularly feature in the top 10 albums of all time polls and on satellite music channels.
So here it came late summer 1997 and it had arrived, the most eagerly anticipated album since, well to be fair probably of all time.
You put this on and are blown away.
1.D'You know what I mean?
Mindblowingly brilliant song, from the helicopter at the start signalling Oasis arrival and the 5 piece drum intro. The guitars hit and then its Liam 's snarling voice ripping out of your cd player at you. This song straight away reminds you of what's missing in today's music charts, long songs that go on a journey and don't have any definitive purpose, they are just there, this is a great opener and arguably Oasis' greatest opener. 10/10
2.My Big Mouth.
Oasis at their snarling rocking best, from the start to finish with My Big Mouth you are bopping away bouncing away singing away, you get so caught up in this song you do feel disappointed when it ends though. 9/10
3.Magic Pie.
This is Noels first foray into singing on this album and he works himself and proves he can sing. This song starts slow and light for the first to lines then a cracking guitar rift lift this song right up and give it a rocky feel and like the opener this s lacking direction but that's what makes it, its just a good good rock song. A very unusual ending as it leads into song. 9/10
4. Stand By Me.
Anthemic sing along tune that only Oasis can mass produce. This is one of the standout tracks on a standout album its a song that everytime you here you sit up and listen, as a big Oasis fan having Liam back on this form is a dream. 9/10
5. I hope I think I know.
Along the same lines as Big Mouth and Magic Pie. This another rocking anthem a jump along to song and as it goes into the chorus, personally my favourite of all Oasis songs you again catch/find yourself perplexed and its a highlight of the album. Brilliant 10/10
6. The Girl in the Dirty Shirt.
Another very good song and another time on this album when you find yourself casting your mind back to other songs as with the start to this and theme running through it on an everyday album would have been the successor to Magic Pie but this album, is like this song a story that by the time you get here you are hooked on the album. 8/10
7.Fade In/Out.
Slow start to a rocking and brilliant song, 10 seconds before any music then a minute of guitar before a quick drum roll and the ever noticeable Liam snarl comes on, the song again dips away as it tries to be a melodic tune, but Oasis at this stage were making rock and roll songs and they eventually go for it with a snarling ahhhh halfway through the song when you actually think the song is fading out, drums guitars everything hits at you, its a great surprise and again shows the quality this album has. 9/10
8. Don't Go Away.
How do you describe this song, amazing!! Its a ballad of types along the lines of cast no shadow, a truly memorizing song from start to finish and is one of Oasis greatest songs. 11/10
9. Be Here Now.
The title track and again a rock and roll classic. Loud abrasive and rude, Liam is shouting out at you here as this album produces another flawless song. 8/10
10. All Around The World.
A masterpiece to say the least and at 9 minutes long it is the mainstay of this album which is intent on taking you on a journey. This is a sing along a hand waver this is Oasis at there very best and is just shaded in the race for best song on the album. The chorus is catchy and like all Great songs, this has no ending, it actually just drifts out at the end getting lower and lower. Na na na na na nananaaaaaaaaaaa!! 10/10
11. Its Gettin Better Man.
Amazing rock song, one which is much more appreciated when listened to live. It gets those hairs standing up on the back of your neck, its a song that was designed for Defiantly Maybe, its so loud you feel like you have put your volume up tenfold. This song does not get the credit it deserves. 10/10
12. All Around the World (Reprise). Instrumental version of song 10 and a fitting tribute to the end of a wonderful album. 8/10
To really enjoy and savour this album you need to relax get a drink and get a good 2 hours alone time, lie down and listen, you will be amazed.

Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul
The latest and most diverse of Oasis albums with everyone doing something, a good album but if Oasis want to make more classic album, Noel writes and Liam sings, leave the experimenting to the b-sides!!!
Bag it up : Very gritty song, the minute it starts you know your listening to an Oasis record. Liam and the guitars sound superb in this, a great album opener. 8/10
The Turning : I get a reminder of Be Here Now and magic pie from this song, not sure why though. Very good song going from loud and in your face to a stripped back sound, very good sound, you can here old Oasis and new throughout this tune. 8/10
Waiting for the Rapture : Noels first vocal contribution, he sounds superb in it, but it has a feel to it that it would really suit Liam's voice. Like bag it up it's a very gritty sound, it is, the to be expected, really quick song of the album, after a few listens you really enjoy it. 8/10
The Shock of the Lightning : Super song, super choice as the lead single, in your face Oasis song. Liam again on top form. Real easy to listen to song, a good link between the real early stuff and the newer gritter offerings. 9/10
I'm Outta Time : No matter what album Oasis have always produced one of these anthemic type acoustic tunes. For us Oasis fans from the start we will probably prefer others on the record but on the other hand its a song that will get your part time fans raving over. 8/10
Get of your High Horse Lady : Noels second offering, the weakest song on the album in my view. It's a very different new Oasis sound, very slow song, that dies away towards the end. 6/10
Falling Down : Noel finds his form and his song, he sounds like a real front-man. This is a truly marvellous song, great drum sound running through this offering. Any doubts still lingering by non believers about Oasis' "return to form" are truly quashed by this superb song, pushes Im Outta Time all the way for best song and could be put in any era of Oasis music. 10/10
To Be Where There's Life : The definite link between the previous album and this album. Quite phscodelic with a who feels love feeling to it, good steady album song. 7/10
Ain't Got Nothing : In your face song, with a definitely maybe feel to it, when you put this song on it sounds louder than the rest of the album. Again a good steady album, song. 7/10
The Nature of Reality :Very varied song that starts quick and dies off pretty quick and along with Get of Your High Horse it disappoints and brings the album down a bit. 6/10
Solider On : Good song, a solid song but in the wrong place as it just allows the album to drift away. It would be a much better song placed elsewhere, bad desicion to have it at the end.
The album starts on fire with the opening 5 songs really making you listen to the album, you definitely get a good vibe. The second half of the album is average with song 6 and the final song really bringing the album down. Falling down is superb and it's a welcome relief to hear it after Get of your High Horse. All in all a good album, in my view 2 songs short of being an exceptional album. Overall 8/10
This was a review I did on the old Oasis forums which are now defunct.

The Album that changed the life of millions. Def Maybe
Here it was, the debut of Oasis.
Brit pop, indie music and music in general was in the doldrums 93-94, it needed a boost and this was that.
Late 1993 and Radio 1 got hold of Columbia and gave it some airplay which was loved by music listeners across the board and this only wetted peoples appetites for what was coming in the summer of 94.
Supersonic was released in April 94, Shakermaker in June 94 and then Live Forever and the album itself released in August 94.
It debuted at number 1 in its opening week selling 100,000 copies in four days and was for a time the fastest selling UK debut album of all time.
Here's my take on the songs that changed my life!
Rock and Roll Star; The greatest album opener of all time, scintillating is how Im going to describe this song. Simple yet creative, a new sound, a sound that would become synonymous with Oasis, loud, in your face and standing out head and shoulders above everything else available at the time. The guitar intro is great and the drums kick in before the now iconic opening lyric "I live my life in the cityyyyyyyy and there's no easy way out". The sunshineeeeeeee also gets a first Oasis mention here. Outlandish, brazen and Oasis. Tonight Im a Rock nd Roll star!!!!!
Shakermaker; Slow and nearly methodical start to this song, well for the first 15 seconds, it rocks up but it is a softer song than the opener. Some more cracking lyrics here again, seemingly meaning nothing with their only purpose to make a great song, a trait that Noel Gallagher show's throughout his life. There is a great guitar solo/moment a near mid song interlude before Liam belts "Im sorry but I just don't know" another moment where the song seems to begin to end before another burst of life takes us through for another minute and a half of Oasis!
Live Forever; Oasis' most recognizable intro, and one of the most recognizable intro's in music. A song revered on by the general public and music critics alike. Live Forever is the first song that we really get hearing Liam flex his muscles as a vocalist with the soft "you and I were gona' live forever" and of course the mid way point has another guitar solo and possibly Oasis' best solo in any song, it takes you away somewhere. Critically acclaimed and has stood the test of time, your children and their children will hear this and acknowledge it's quality, like Wonderwall, and Don't Like Back in Anger this song crossed music divides everywhere, from Hard Rock and hip-hop to Goth and Rave his was loved by everyone.
Up in the Sky; "Hey you up in the sky" This song is another musical masterpiece, simple words with no real direction and simple music and chords played and placed perfectly. The change in pace and direction with the "you'll need assistance with the things that you've never ever seen" is effortless and brilliant.
Colombia; This is one of these where I ask did you ever here Colombia? No never, then I play it and you say oh yes that one. The song that kicked Oasis into and made people sit up and listen. The first airplays of this where nearly a year before the album release. I find this a mellow song, you what I hear you..well its just a real chill out tune, not too heavy nor too soft. A song that I can listen to always and never feel the urge to skip through!
Supersonic; A typical Oasis song, starts with guitars and then all it once Liam and the drums come at you. Some conic lyrics again "can I ride with you in your BMW" and a brilliant guitar solo just backed up with drums then an "ahahahahahah" before back it all comes. "She sniffed it in a tissue selling the big issue" another classic line, this is and Oasis song a model for many Gallagher and wannabe Gallagher's the World ever.
Bring it on Down; Rock and Roll is back and its bigger than ever. A cracking song, very heavy, in comparison to what has gone before. A real head bopper this is a song to listen to before you get into the ring (if your a boxer) but it has a soft moment mid way through with a computer altered Liam Gallagher voice drawing you into a false sense of security that the songs ending, you get too close to the cd player and boom "your the outkassssst" and we are rocking out until the end.
Cigarettes and Alcohol; Is this their best song ever? Its debatable. A cracking intro and away we go..."is it my imaginatioooooooonnnnn". This is Liam's song, all his sunshinneeeee's are a highlight. The mid song interlude just wets your appetite for the guitar rift and and another drawn out word this time "agravatiooonnn" A hard song to describe because it's just brilliant. With your shinnnneeeesss and guitars rift Cigs and Alc could grace any album.
Digsy's Dinner; Short sweet and a complete re-direction of the album, this is She's Electric's older brother. "These have been the best days of our lives" Im always looking forward to this song on the album as it Oasis fist serious use of piano in their music and a real late night everyone really drunk sing along song!!!!
Slide Away; So good they still play it at most gigs, sing along, rock along or dance along, this song hits all the right cords and notes. Indie music is Slide Away, Noel joins in here for the first time with a bit of background singing and this is the complete song, you get the feeling through all the great songs before hand Oasis have got that masterpiece they have been looking for since, well Live Forever all of a few songs back. If your a big Oasis fan you will notice the Slide Away influence on Oasis songs from beginning to now!!
Married with Children; Oasis first foray into acoustic classics again flexing their vocal and musical muscles. "Your music's shite it keeps me up all night" a reference to all other music out there at the time? This is another timeless classic from Oasis and is a real good link to the next album Morning Glory. Cracker!!!
All in all this is (in my humble opinion) The Greatest Album ever, Oasis never rocked like they did in this album until Don't Believe The Truth a few years back.
If you haven't had the joy of listening to this classic go get it and become in an hour an Oasis fan.
